Without question, AJ Styles has fast become one of WWE’s top Superstars. A consistent performer who regularly steals the show, he’s more than earned his spot at the top of Smackdown Live’s card. But the former WWE Champion has bigger dreams – one that sees him competing in the main event of Wrestlemania – against Nakamura.

Speaking with the folks over at Screen Geeks, Styles admitted that the lure of a Nakamura/Styles Wrestlemania main event is too much for him to ignore;

“There’s a couple guys that I’m looking forward to getting into the ring with whether it’s Shinsuke or Finn or Seth. You know, guys like that – or even going back to Roman. I love wrestling those guys.”

“I’m picking Shinsuke. Sorry, that’s nothing on Finn Balor. The reason why I say this is because at Wrestlemania, it’s not going to happen with Finn Balor and I. Why? Because he’s on Raw. Shinsuke’s my best chance getting into that Main Event picture at Wrestlemania. That’s why he wins the championship. I hope he wins it so I can get in there and wrestle him at Wrestlemania.

I think it’s great that Shinsuke is getting an opportunity to be – I don’t know if it’s going to be main event – but I think it’s cool that it’s going to be one of them. This guy has paid his dues. He’s been in Japan for a long time and he’s so charismatic in everything he does. I’m looking forward to the match just like everyone else.”

Rumors have swirled for the longest time that WWE were planning to put Nakamura and Styles together at Wrestlemania. The pair teased a huge encounter during their Money in the Bank match, where there was a very clear planting of the seeds.

The big problem with this dream is WWE’s obsession with putting Roman Reigns in the Wrestlemania main event. The guy has main-evented the biggest WWE pay per view of the year three times in a row now, facing off against Brock Lesnar, Triple H and The Undertaker. The prospects of AJ Styles and Nakamura actually getting o go on last remain sadly low.

Shinsuke Nakamura is currently the number one contender for Jinder Mahal’s WWE Championship, with the pair set to face off at the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view.

Would you want to see AJ Styles and Nakamura compete in the main event of Wrestlemania?
