It seems a day doesn’t go by where the upcoming Justice League movie isn’t a discussion point. With Joss Whedon stepping into Zack Snyder’s role, speculation has been rife over just how extensive his changes will be on the much hyped DC outing. Turns out that one of the movies biggest stars, Ben Affleck, has revealed that the changes in visions of the movie are quite extensive.
Speaking to EW, Affleck discussed just how differing the visions are between the two directors.
“It’s a little bit unorthodox…[and] an interesting product of two directors, both with kind of unique visions, both with really strong takes. I’ve never had that experience before making a movie.”
It seems to confirm earlier suggestions that Whedon was brought on to lighten up Justice League. Zack Snyder has been noted for not focussing on humour in his movies – something that many critiqued in Dawn of Justice: Batman v Superman.
Affleck went on to state that he’s excited to be involved with DC right now – suggesting that he’d much happier with the direction of the cinematic universe post-Wonder Woman;
“I’ve never worked on a movie that didn’t do reshoots,” Affleck says. “Argo, we did reshoots for a week and a half! Four days on Gone Baby Gone…This is a really nice time to work in DC. They’re hitting their stride. They’re getting it right. It’s starting to feel like it’s really working.”
It sets an interesting picture for the upcoming Justice League movie – which has the unenviable task of trying to reinstate confidence in the DC Cinematic Universe.
For what it’s worth, I highly doubt that Whedon went in and changed everything about Justice League. That being said, there’s always going to be changes in approach when it comes to the way directors approach major movies. Zack Snyder has always placed importance on appearance – while Whedon is known for his lighter approach.
I guess we’ll just have to see if the two visions can be married when the movie comes out.
