We’ve seen the leaks. We’ve heard the rumors. We’ve even glanced upon the poster that made its way into the wild. Now Bungie has decided to officially announce the existence of its upcoming Destiny 2 – the sequel to the popular first person shooter.

It’s being widely reported that the sequel will land on September 8th – with an exclusive beta set to land on PlayStation 4 during the Summer. For Xbox One owners, it seems that they’ll be made to wait before getting their hands on the title.

There’s also no news on if Destiny 2 will be gracing PC gamers with its presences. Rather controversially, the original never arrived on PC.

The sequel looks set to follow the events of Destiny’s last expansion pass – with sources saying;

“The sequel will heavily focus on chronological events set after the Fall 2015 Expansion The Taken King. The cabal forces attack the city leaving the civilians and mentors of the tower defenseless. It is the guardians job to fight back the cabal and reclaim the city. While doing so the guardian will discover the long lost stories of Queen Mara Sov and The Exo Strangers motives. The story will culminate with the tower and city fighting back the Cabal empire resulting the guardian defeating the leader of the Cabal in the new Raid.”

Clearly this sequel seems to be designed from the ground up to appeal to fans. The big question is if Bungie has learned lessons from the original. While it was never abandoned to the state that other online-focused AAA-titles have been – Destiny’s more hardcore fans have been critical of Bungies post-release content. If they want Destiny 2 to appeal to more than just the hardcore, they need to strike this balance more firmly.

Are you excited by Destiny 2? Will you be picking it up when it launches?
