Disney have a heap of upcoming movies set to go, so of course it’s big news when the company announces its full slate of upcoming films. This evening the company set its stall out for the next 3-4 years – giving audiences an idea of what to expect (and when). Buckle in as we dive into the huge number of announcements made this evening.

Chief among these was confirmation that Star Wars: Episode IX will find its way to cinemas on May 24th 2019. Given that the previous Star Wars films announced to this date ended up slipping through to December, it’ll be interesting to see how that pans out.

Elsewhere, the previously untitled animation title previously announced for November 27th 2019 has been outed as Frozen 2 – the sequel to Disney’s insanely popular animated flick from a few years back. Frozen is a hugely important film for Disney, so it’ll be interesting to see where they take that film – and if they can recapture the magic of “Let it Go”.

We also found out that the live-action Lion King will be arriving in cinemas on July 19th 2019. Given the success of Disney’s live-action movies in recent years, Disney will be hoping that the transition from animation to live-action doesn’t completely undo the magic of their much loved property.

The big loser in all these announcements seems to be the new Indiana Jones movie – which has been pushed all the way back into 2020. Given that the film was originally pencilled in for a 2018 release – slipping two years seems to suggest that the movie is going through some extensive behind-the-scenes work. Remember that Disney bagged the Indiana Jones franchise when it took over all of Lucasfilms properties.

Other notable announcements made tonight include;
