Game of Thrones is the beast that never sleeps. It’s success has pushed HBO to look at ways to ensure that the shows success can be relayed into a new series – with four spinoffs announced as in various stages of development. Now we know that there’s a fifth spinoff in development – adding to the tower of ideas for the show.

Geaorge R. R. Martin has revealed that a fifth, previously unannounced project will be joining the ranks of the spinoff’s already in development

“We had four scripts in development when I arrived in L.A. last week, but by the time I left we had five. We have added a fifth writer to the original four. No, I will not reveal the name here. HBO announced the names of the first four, and will no doubt announce the fifth as well, once his deal has closed. He’s a really terrific addition, however, a great guy and a fine writer, and aside from me and maybe Elio and Linda, I don’t know anyone who knows and loves Westeros as well as he does.”

Martin also revealed that all five of the scripts currently in development take place before the events of the current TV series – dashing any hopes that we’d be moving beyond the current timescale.

Martin has made clear that all five concepts will be made into TV series – but the network is exploring every possible angle when it comes to the next incarnation of the show. It was unusual for HBO to announce that it was developing so many spinoffs in the first place – the process of working on treatments usually takes place behind closed doors.

One thing we do know is that the two current showrunners; D. B Weiss and David Benioff will not be helming any of them.
