HBO has never had it so good. Games of Thrones is considered one of the most popular television series around right now, and it only growing in audience figures. Yet with the series ending at the end of Season 8 – HBO are actively looking for ways to extend the popularity of Westeros into something more long-term. Now it’s been revealed that the premium cable channel is actively working on four different spinoff ideas.

The report comes via Variety, which states that HBO has four different writers working on ideas for the next chapter of Westeros action;

“We’ll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in,”

The four writers who are working on these spinoff’s include Max Borenstein (“Kong: Skull Island”), Jane Goldman (“Kingsman: The Golden Circle”), Brian Helgeland (“Legend”), and Carly Wray (“Mad Men,” “The Leftovers”). It should also be noted that Goldman and Wray are working directly with Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin on their ideas.

It’s a bold direction for HBO to take, as it suggests that we’re only going to end up with more Westero’s action in the future. There’s no guarantee all four will make it to screen. Considering that Game of Thrones is the channel’s most watched TV show of all time, there’s a lot of potential money on the line.

Speaking back in 2016 about the idea of spinoffs, HBO programming president Casey Bloys stated;

“We’ve talked about it. It’s something I’m not opposed to. But, of course, it has to make sense creatively. I am not sure that the guys [Weiss and Benioff] can really wrap their heads around it when they’re just about to start production. It’s a pretty intense production. They’re about to start production soon, but I’m open to it. The guys weren’t opposed to it, but there is no concrete plans, or anything like that at this point.”

I’d love to see some of the world of Game of Thrones explored outside of Westeros. We’ve seen plenty of the main setting for Game of Thrones – but there’s a huge world yet to be seen on the television show. Hopefully we get this down the line.

What would you want to see from a Game of Thrones spinoff?
