Huge SummerSlam Main Event Announced on Monday Night Raw

Brock Lesnar has been the WWE Universal Champion since Wrestlemania 33. Capturing the Championship from Goldberg, the former UFC star has only faced off against one opponent thus far – Samoa Joe. On tonight’s edition of Monday Night Raw – Brock Lesnar found out that he’ll be facing off against three other Superstars for his Championship, at SummerSlam.

The announcement came via Raw General Manager Kurt Angle, who was interrupted three times when trying to make the announcement. The decision follows the inconclusive finish to last weeks number one contender match between Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns. The pair competed in the main event of Raw – but were interrupted by the returning Braun Strowman.

There has been a heap of speculation in recent months that Brock Lesnar may be eyeing up a return to UFC. Reports emerged late last week that the Superstar had submitted himself for drugs testing again – the first step on any potential return. Should he return in early 2018 – it may rule him out of the busiest period in WWE’s calendar year.

It’s been suggested that Brock Lesnar will drop his Universal Championship at SummerSlam – allowing him to begin training for a return. Whether this comes to pass or not remains to be seen, but its clear that with only a few months left on his WWE contract Lesnar is weighting up his options.

I’m fine with a four-way. Not only is this a blockbuster match – it also finally gives Braun Strowman his first shot at the WWE Universal Championship. It also means that Lesnar could theoretically lose his belt without having to eat a pin. It’s long been suggested that Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar are destined to compete in the main event of Wrestlemania 34. This multi-man match would preserve that match.

Are you excited for the main event of SummerSlam? Who do you want to see win the WWE Universal Championship?
