Since its formation, Marvel’s Cinematic Universe has been moving towards the big showdown between The Avengers and Thanos, a spaced based entity that’s long been sitting in the shadows. While audiences wait patiently for the two upcoming Avengers movies, James Gunn has revealed that once Thanos is out of the way – audiences should expect much different offerings from the superhero movies.

Taking to Twitter, the Guardians of the Galaxy director revealed that the entire direction of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe will shift post-Avengers 4. Telling followers;

“Read Kevin Feige’s quotes & not the static around them. It’s the end of one long story & the beginning of another.”

“And one of the films that will kickstart the new story will be #GotGVol3”

This isn’t the first time that Gunn has been open in discussing just how his next Guardians movie will pivotal. He spoke in August about how Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be setting the ball in motion for the next 10-20 years of MCU flicks – indicating strongly that the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is very much space-based. Whether this turns out to be the case or not, the fact is that there’s a heap of comic book material to serve as the base for the next generation of Marvel movies.

Rumors have suggested that a number of the current Avengers will be facing their demise through the upcoming movies. With so many AAA-actors tied to the cinematic universe, it makes sense to kill off those whose ultimate purpose has been served (if for no other reason, to bring those sky-high costs down). We’ve heard plenty of talk surrounding the futures of Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans over the years – both of whom have stated that their tenure within the MCU won’t last forever. With so many members of the Avengers, it’s inevitable that some of them won’t be making it to the next phase.

Someone should really hide Hawkeye before Thanos shows up.

What direction would you want to see the MCU move in post-Avengers 4?
