WWE fans have endured months of Jinder Mahal as WWE Champion. Speculation suggested that it was all part of WWE’s plan to crack India – a country that had never had a WWE Champion. Now though that tour, arguably the biggest reason for Mahal to be Champion, has been slashed in half – reportedly due to low ticket sales.
The news comes via The Times of India, which reports WWE will be folding its two-night Indian event into one Supershow;
“To meet the requests of WWE fans in India, and deliver the biggest main event in the country’s history, WWE is combining two nights of family-friendly action into a one-night only, exclusive Supershow,”
The show will be headlined by Jinder Mahal vs. Triple H in the main event, replacing the Kevin Owens match that Mahal was originally penciled in for (Owens will not be making the travel to India).
Triple H stepped up to challenge Jinder Mahal via Twitter last week. The former WWE Champion returned to WWE television this week, announcing his addition to the upcoming Survivor Series Raw vs. Smackdown match.
The match card for the India Supershow is currently set as;
- Braun Strowman vs. Kane
- Finn Balor vs Bray Wyatt
- RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss vs. Sasha Banks
- Jason Jordan vs Elias
- WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore vs. Kalisto
- Apollo Crews and Titus O’Neil vs Gallows and Anderson
- Jeet Rama and Kishan Rafter vs The Miztourage
It should be noted also that AJ Styles (the WWE Champion) will not be traveling to India as part of this show. There were suggestions that he might lose the WWE Championship to Mahal in India, it would seem that isn’t the case anymore.
Are you surprised by this turn of events? Will Mahal be able to beat Triple H in the main event of that show?
