I’m doing something a little bit different. With Kingdom Hearts 1.5 & 2.5 HD Remix out I’m going to talk about one game at a time. I’m going to start with the first game and that’s Kingdom Hearts Final Mix.

Kingdom Hearts Final Mix was a Japan Exclusive game that had English voice acting with Japanese subtitles that was released on Dec. 26. It was re-released in America as part of the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix on September 10, 2013, for the PlayStation 3 and now here we are with Kingdom Hearts 1.5 & 2.5 HD Remix on the PlayStation 4.

So let’s get most things out the way. The Story is still the same. We follow the young teenager Sora as his world was consumed by the darkness caused by The Heartless. Sora teams up with Disney Characters Donald and Goofy as they try to save the worlds and find Sora’s friends by The Heartless. Sora teams up with Disney Characters Donald and Goofy as they try to save the worlds and find Sora’s friends.

Gameplay is still the same in Final Mix. It’s an action slash RPG game. Final Mix features new cutscenes, recolored Heartless, new annoying enemies (I’ll explain why they are annoying), new items, remixed music, new weapons, new abilities, Gummi Ship missions (which I never do), cutscenes and a new secret boss to get players ready for Kingdom Hearts II. What’s very surprising to me is that the Japanese version of Final Mix version featured bosses that were in the English Version: Sephiroth, Ice Titan and Kurt Zisa.

Now there is one thing that annoys me with Final Mix are the new Heartless featured in this game. The new Heartless are basically recolored upgraded version of regular heartless. Now some of these new enemies have unique abilities, for example, one enemy called Jet Balloon shots out enemies at Sora and if it hits him he loses a lot of money but the one enemy that really annoys me is the SniperWild. If this enemy spots Sora it calls upon its allies for a NEVER-ENDING assault of slingshots. You’ll need to do certain abilities and certain magic spells to defeat them. Also, these new enemies drop new items that you’ll need to make the Ultima Weapon.

That’s right folks the Ultima requires new items to make old way doesn’t work anymore. For me honestly adding new enemies I don’t really see the point in adding them. They do make getting the Ultima Weapon a lot more annoying but hey some people might like the new enemies and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Now the one new addition I loved is the new secret boss they added called Unknown. Now fans of the Kingdom Hearts series will know this Unknown enemy is but I don’t want to spoil for anybody that is just getting into the series. I thought the fight was really enjoyable. It’s pretty difficult but that’s what makes it fun

Seeing Kingdom Hearts Final Mix on the PS4 looks great it runs on 60 FPS. One thing I noticed is the load times are a lot faster than the PS3. Anything that loads fast is a great thing for me.
