It’s always nice when legends return to WWE and Mickie James is certainly that. One of the most successful female performers of her generation, James is a huge fan-favorite and remains a consistent performer at the top level. Now she’s returned to WWE, appearing on the Smackdown Live brand and signalling her return to the company.

James interfered in the main-event of Smackdown Live, attacking Becky Lynch and costing her the Smackdown Live Women’s Championship in a cage match against Alexa Bliss. it was clear that the two have been working together for a while – something that audiences weren’t expecting. James had been performing under the La Luchadora persona in recent weeks, a mysterious wrestler who had been attacking Becky Lynch on a weekly basis.

Mickie James made her initial WWE return a few months back, featuring in an NXT Women’s Championship match against Asuka. The match was hugely entertaining and showcased that even at this late stage in her in-ring career, Mickie could still go at the top level. Rumors surfaced almost immediately that Mickie would be signing a full-time contract with the company, something that seems to have happened now.

Mickie James is the only female wrestler to have held the WWE Divas Championship, WWE Women’s Championship and the TNA Knockouts Championship – a huge accomplishment. Her last run with WWE ended under something of a cloud, as she began to pursue a country music career. TNA were willing to offer her flexibility, and so she went down to Florida. Her run in TNA was successful, but petered out towards the end as TNA began to struggle from financial issues. The release of a number of the company’s top Knockout talent saw James leave the company amicably in early 2016.

What does this mean for Smackdown Live moving forward? How long can Alexa count on Mickie having her back?
