Nintendo doesn’t make being a fan easy. Across the years, there are plenty of examples of the company failing to deliver the quantity of items needed to satisfy fans. Recent examples include the endless Amiibo Ebay shillings, Nintendo Switch shortages and NES Classic Console shortages. Now the company has added another potential disappointment to its roster of devices, announcing the Super Nintendo Classic Edition Console.
The device will land on September 29th of this year. Various regions will get their own classic design of consoles, as well as 21 bundled in games. These include;
- Contra III: The Alien Wars
- Donkey Kong Country
- Final Fantasy III
- Kirby Super Star
- Kirby’s Dream Course
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Mega Man X
- Secret of Mana
- Star Fox
- Star Fox 2
- Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
- Super Castlevania IV
- Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts
- Super Mario Kart
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- Super Mario World
- Super Metroid
The games are by and large what we expected. There’s a sprinkling of third-party offerings, but the list largely consists of Nintendo’s own body of work.
Perhaps the most interesting addition is Star Fox 2, a game that was never actually released. It was shown off at various stages and made use of the SNES’s 3D capabilities – but was deemed to much of a drain on the system.
Overall the package represents a good selection of titles for Nintendo, who will likely be looking to avoid the severe disappointment that cancelling the NES Classic Console brought.
Personally, I can’t wait to jump into Super Metroid in all its High Definition glory. Including two controllers is also a wise move for Nintendo – hopefully longer than the ones in the NES console.
What games are you looking forward to playing on the Super Nintendo Classic Edition Console? Which games are you disappointed didn’t make the cut?
