If you’re sick of hearing about Dwayne Johnson in recent weeks – the fact is that the Hollywood actor is everywhere right now. From Baywatch to Fast 8, the man just can’t stop making movies. One of his more intriguing upcoming projects though ties into his role as Black Adam within the DC Cinematic Universe – a role he requested specifically.
Speaking to Fandango about his role in the DC Cinematic Universe, Dwayne Johnson said that DC Cinematic fans will be delighted to see where his character turns up – and whom that might be against;
“have a really cool surprise for Black Adam that I can’t reveal, in terms of where we will see Black Adam being introduced,” and he also said a fight between his Black Adam and Henry Cavill’s Superman is “in the cards.”
I can also imagine the executives over at Warner Bros are rubbing their hands in glee. Dwayne Johnson’s insane popularity as The Rock in WWE pretty much guarantees that audiences will pay good money to see him take on Superman of all people on the silver screen.
It also marks a notable shift in direction. Two years ago, Johnson stated that his DC movie would be separate from the rest of the DC cinematic universe. These comments seem to indicate that things have changed in that regard.
Johnson also revealed who he feels would make a great Shazam in the DC Cinematic Universe – telling We Got This Covered;
“I’m not even going to tell you his name, I’m just going to say Lone Ranger… I just remember meeting him and walking away going, ‘Man, that guy would look great, I bet, as Shazam.’ And by the way, he’s one of a handful.”
The obvious nod from all this is that Armie Hammer (aka, The Lone Ranger) is in the running for the role – although nothing is set in stone at this stage.
It’s good to see The Rock enthused about the DC Cinematic Universe (It’s good to see anyone excited about it at this stage to be honest). It’ll be a while before we see this play out – but the news is all very encouraging.
Are you looking forward to seeing The Rock and Superman take each other on?
