After the car crash that was Terminator Genisys, reports suggested that Paramount Pictures were sticking the franchise on indefinite hiatus. Apparently, they now have other plans, as Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed the existence of an upcoming Terminator movie, starring himself.

According to The Playlist, Schwarzenegger will return for Terminator 6, which will begin filming in March 2018. The movie will be under the guidance of James Cameron and Terminator Genisys producer David Ellison. Right now Deadpool director Tim Miller is reportedly set to take up the directors role.

Schwarzenegger confirmed his involvement by saying;

“In March next year, I am shooting Terminator 6. James Cameron and David Ellison are back on board.”

I’m in two minds about this one. The Terminator franchise was once a hugely impressive franchise for all involved, helping to cement Arnie’s Hollywood A-List star while setting the benchmark for special effects. Sadly since the second outing, the series has been on a seemingly endless road to decline. Terminator 3 wasn’t well received while the Christian Bale powered Terminator Salvation is generally considered a disaster on all fronts.

Terminator Genisys was intended to serve as a soft reboot of the series, paying homage to the originals while setting a course for themselves. Sadly that course was terribly thought out – as the movie took some of the best bits from the originals and slammed them into a brick wall. Matt Smith’s character serving as a perfect example of how poorly implemented a number of characters were.

I’m on board for more from the franchise – but it really needs to up its game. The last movie’s gross worldwide was pretty abysmal – saved thanks to a Chinese box office that blew expectations apart.

What would you want from the upcoming Terminator movie? Should Arnold Schwarzenegger still be involved in the franchise at this stage?
