It’s fair to say WWE audiences were pleasantly surprised to see Kane pop up (quite literally!) during this past weeks Monday Night Raw. The Big Red Machine has been missing in action for the longest time – with some reports suggesting he was all but done with his in-ring persona. While fans are excited to see what he gets up to, it seems audiences shouldn’t get too excited for his return.
Reports from PWInsider suggest that Kane is only set to be around for the next month – with appearances set for this Sunday’s TLC pay-per-view and a handful of Raw’s. There’s no news on what he’ll be doing during those weeks, we’re guessing that WWE will mine the obvious storyline out of the fact that Roman Reigns retired his kayfabe brother, The Undertaker, at Wrestlemania 33.
For those not in the know, Glenn Jacobs (aka the guy who plays Kane) is running for mayor in a US town. It’s a legit aspiration for the WWE Superstar, who has always had a keen interest in politics. Of course given his characters less than stellar history (Setting Superstars on fire, that Katie Vick storyline) it’s no surprise that he opted to keep his distance while getting momentum behind that.
What’s most impressive about Kane’s return was just how secretive it was kept. Apparently, most of the WWE locker room had no idea he would be returning – only discovering the truth when Kane emerged from under the ring in the Raw main event. For a guy who comes in at just under seven feet, that’s quite the impressive feat.
Kane will play a major role in this Sunday’s TLC pay-per-view, where the former WWE Champion has been added to the main event match. He’ll be teaming alongside Braun Strowman, The Miz, Sheamus and Cesaro to take on the newly reformed Shield.
