With so much controversy surround the Smackdown Live Women’s Division right now, it’s easy to forget that there’s an actual Championship belt all the women are actively chasing. So I’m sure those women will be delighted to hear that the rookie Lana will be getting a second shot at Naomi’s Smackdown Live Women’s Championship next week.

Lana approached Naomi during a backstage segment on this weeks episode of Smackdown Live, demanding a rematch. Despite initially laughing at the idea, the current Women’s Champion Naomi opted to give Lana a second opportunity – announcing that she would get her rematch for the WWE Smackdown Live Women’s Championship next week.

The match will be Lana’s second television singles match in her career. Previously the Smackdown Live female performer has only competed in tag team matches (Wrestlemania 32) as well as her Championship match at 2017’s Money in the Bank pay per view.

It has to be said that I’m not all that excited at the prospect of seeing the two women face off again. Lana was clearly the weak link in their MITB match, with Naomi forced to slow down her usual pace. This wasn’t helped by Lana’s clear lack of polish in her overall delivery. We’re not expecting much from here (She is only just beginning her WWE career) but she really needs to work harder at bringing together her in-ring work.

It’s interesting to see WWE pushing Naomi as a fighting Champion, setting her up for pitfalls and potential loss. Any kind of loss to Lana would be a huge upset, so I’m very curious to see how they choose to handle this situation.

With all the controversy surrounding Carmella and her contentious run with the Money in the Bank briefcase – will WWE use this as a chance to drop the belt to Carmella before Summerslam?
