It’s still hard to believe that Sony and Marvel managed to find common ground over the iconic Spider-Man character. After years of not playing ball, Sony Movies finally elected to let their web-slinger play inside Marvel’s MCU. Despite this, we’ve never really had confirmation of how many outings we can expect from Peter Parker. Turns out Tom Holland, the actor playing him, may have confirmed the trilogy plans.
Speaking to the folks over at AlloCiine, Holland effectively confirmed the trilogy plans;
“There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man especially to grow in the next two movies. He’s definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies,” Holland said, before adding “yeah, there’ll be Spider-Man 2 and 3, it won’t be Homecoming 2 and 3.”
There had been rumors recently that Sony might be looking to yank Spider-Man out of the MCU after his second movie outing. With their own cinematic universe taking shape under Venom; reports indicated that the movie studio might not be looking to extend its tie-in.
Honestly, if Sony has any hopes of making money off Spider-Man, they need to appeal to as broad an audience as possible. Part of the reason The Amazing Spider-Man failed so hard was that it didn’t do what audiences wanted. Sony’s direction with the character always leads to the same problems; frankly they need to pack it in. It’s bad enough that there’ll reportedly be a new Spider-Man to fill the hole in the Venom Cinematic Universe.
Are you excited at the prospect of two more Spider-Man outings after Homecoming? Are you interested in Sony’s Venom movie on any level?
