WWE announces that Roman Reigns will yet again be defending his United States Championship – this time in a triple threat match.
Whether or not you like Roman Reigns, you have to admit that he’s been defending the Championship on Monday Night Raw fairly frequently in recent times. Clearly WWE think this is a good thing, as they’ve gone head and announced that Roman Reigns will be defending his United States Championship this week against both Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho.
The announcement from WWE for the triple threat match reads;
“United States Champion Roman Reigns seems unstoppable lately, retaining his title against both Chris Jericho and WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens in recent weeks. However, live this Monday in New Orleans, The Big Dog will need to defend Old Glory against both Jeri-KO members simultaneously in a Handicap Match.
The notorious best friends already consider themselves co-bearers of the WWE Universal Championship — a title officially held by Owens — but they could very well also share the U.S. Title by Monday’s end if the numbers game works in their favor.
Additionally, this match comes less than three weeks before Reigns challenges Owens for Team Red’s crown jewel at Royal Rumble, when Jericho will be locked inside a shark cage and suspended above the ring to forestall his interference. It’ll be a fair fight for Reigns that night in the Alamodome. But this Monday, The Big Easy will be anything but for the indomitable Superstar.”
Personally I’m hoping he loses it, if only so Jericho can claim the only Championship he’s yet to wrap his hands around during his long WWE tenure. Then again, it seems somewhat inevitable that the Samoan Superstar will be picking up the double champion honor at some stage. It would be quite amusing if they gave that nod to Owens beforehand though – something that would surprise the WWE Universe.
Can Reigns overcome the odds again? Can Owens/Jericho finally take the gold for themselves?
