When WWE announced it would be embarking on its United Kingdom Championship Tournament, many fans didn’t know quite what to expect from the company’s offerings. It’s signed UK stars before, but this was the first time WWE has committed to launching an overseas territory. Tonight saw the company crown its first champion in the United Kingdom, Tyler Bate.

The two-night event culminated in a match between Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne – whom both fought to become the inaugural Champion. You can check out the full breakdown of the matches and results in our full run down here.
The event saw 16 of the United Kingdom’s best indie talents fight over two evenings. The event was broadcast on the WWE Network. Bate’s success means that he’s now officially the youngest ever Champion within WWE – aged just 19. It’s quite an achievement for the wrestler.
It’s unclear at this stage when and where WWE will be setting up its UK branch. Now that it has a Champion, it’ll be important for WWE to ensure that the momentum of the Championship moving forward. Perhaps they’ll be allowing the belt to be defended in WWE promotions for the short-term while it organizes its house.
