Since arriving on Smackdown Live, there’s been an expectation that the popular New Day team would become Champions at some stage. Tonight during WWE’s Battleground pay-per-view event, that moment occurred – as the team captured the Smackdown Live Tag Team Championships from The Usos.

The win was positively received by fans, who were treated to a great match. In truth the whole feud has been very well done – with the pair managing to work around each other very well. The rap battle a few weeks back managed to raise excitement for the WWE Battleground matchup.

The Usos captured the WWE Smackdown Live Tag Team Championships a few months back, defeating American Alpha to win the belts. Since then, The Usos have defended the Championships against several teams – although they didn’t defend their gold at Wrestlemania. The Usos have held their WWE Smackdown Live Tag Team Championships for a while now, and looked set to carry the straps into SummerSlam.

The win means that The New Day have become the first team to capture both the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships and the Smackdown Live Tag Team Championships. Considering that the team held their gold for a record length back through 2015 – 2016, there’s potential for them to repeat the feat again.

The New Day arrived on Tuesday nights back during the WWE Shakeup. They were a surprise move – having hosted Wrestlemania and helped to re-introduce The Hardy Boys during that event.

The match itself was incredibly fun. A great tag team match that showed both of these teams are the best in the division. I suspect we aren’t quite done yet with this feud – it’ll likely lead to one more match at the upcoming SummerSlam event.

Are you happy with this title change? Who should face the new WWE Smackdown Live Tag Team Champions at SummerSlam?
