It’s been the talk of Hollywood for months, a reported blowup between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel during the filming of Fate of the Furious suggested the pair wouldn’t be working together in future. So strong was this rivalry that the pair have barely been seen together in the press tour for the flick. Now though it’s being said that the pair have kissed and made up – with both all-in on the Fast and the Furious 9 movie.
TMZ is reporting that the pair had a private meeting and hashed out their differences. The two are now “good” and “1000% in” for the next outing of the franchise.
The source of this feud is disputed. Some claim it was on-set anger (Diesel has a reputation for being tardy) while others say that Dwayne Johnson was unhappy at being placed second on the movies cast call sheet.
Far be it for me to suggest that this entire thing may have been fabricated, but it’s hard to escape the feeling that this entire “feud” was wound up to help drive interest in the latest Fast and the Furious outing. It makes sense – controversy sells and the idea of two of Hollywood’s biggest stars squaring off for real is enough to get people in the door.
Given that Fate of the Furious has made an absolute killing at the box office – shattering the previous record set by 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens – it seems to have worked for the flick. It’s reportedly already well on its way to shattering $1 billion at the Box Office. Not bad for the eighth outing of the movie franchise.
Do you think it was fabricated? Do you believe that Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel had real beef – or was this all a ruse to get people in the door?
