Releases are never fun in WWE. Given how hard Superstars work through a calendar year, it can be upsetting to hear that certain Superstars have been released. So it’s with some sadness that we’re forwarding the news that Simon Gotch, one half of the¬†VaudeVillains, has been mutually released by WWE.

The statement came via – which simply stated;

“WWE has come to terms on a mutually agreed upon release with Simon Gotch as of today, April 5, 2017.¬†WWE wishes Gotch the best in all his future endeavors.”

In fairness, Gotch likely grew frustrated at his position on the card. him and Aiden English found huge success on NXT, where the pair caught the attention of fans with their unique time hopping gimmick. It wasn’t long until the pair were being spotlighted – as they went on to capture the NXT Tag Team Championship titles. Their reign wasn’t long, but it pointed to a bright future for the pair.

Almost a year ago to the day, the VaudeVillains were promoted to Raw the night after WrestleMania. They even went on to claim a Tag Team Championship match against The New Day – defeating Enzo and Cass along the way. Sadly it wasn’t to be, and from there things only seemed to go down hill for the pair.

The VaudeVillains ended up on Smackdown Live, yet the pair never managed to breakout in the way other teams did. As the weeks passed, their appearances became more and more sporadic. The last time they were featured prominently was back in the WWE Smackdown Live Tag Team Champioship Gauntlet match – where they were easily dispatched.

It’s unclear at this time what Aiden English will be doing with himself. Without his tag team partner, it’s hard to see what WWE can do with him – given how tied into the tag teams gimmick he was. He could ultimately repackage himself.
